Video: Universal Basic Income Explained – Free Money for Everybody? UBI

I came across this very fun and well done video on YouTube explaining UBI – Universal Basic Income.

UBI or Freedom Dividend – is one of the main reasons why I started paying attention to Andrew Yang, as he was the one pushing for it. Ever since he suspended his campaign on February 2020, more and more people are discussing his ideas and getting involved in politics even.

But again, UBI is not a new concept. There are people in American history who have pushed for a Universal Basic Income – such as Martin Luther King, Jr.

One of the main arguments against UBI is thinking that people are just going to become lazy once they get free money. Studies have shown that that is not the case – instead of creating a ceiling (like welfare programs with strings attached), it creates a floor where people can stand up.

Now that we are going through a worldwide pandemic, UBI isn’t sounding as radical as it did before.

One Week Since Andrew Yang Suspended His Campaign

It’s safe to say that a lot of Yang Gang are experiencing a range of emotions ever since Andrew Yang suspended his presidential campaign. I know he had good reason to do so but still, a lot of us are feeling a certain type of way about it. We all feel like we’re in limbo or something, wondering what’s going to happen next.

For one, I’ve never given a crap about politics…EVER. Not until Andrew Yang entered the scene. And a lot of people who follow him now say the exact same thing.

Many people (mostly Yang Gang) are still hoping that he would unsuspend his campaign but at this point, it doesn’t seem that way. Per his final Nevada townhall a few days after suspending, he does plan on announcing something within the next two to six weeks though.

Over the weekend, I watched this 2 hour long YouTube video of Paget Kagy interviewing Dr. Quintus Jett and there are a lot of valuable insights as to what happened to Andrew Yang’s campaign and what could still happen, which is why I got excited about the possibility of Andrew Yang rebooting his campaign because Dr. Jett broke it down in such a way that sounded like it was still very possible – reboot the campaign not to win as president but to simply continue letting people know about his Freedom Dividend / Universal Basic Income.

The Freedom Dividend – giving $1000 to every American over the age of 18 with no strings attached – is what initially attracted me to Andrew Yang. My friend called it a handout. And while it probably sounds that way, I know plenty of people who would love to receive that $1000 a month.

Finally, a plan that actually gives something to people – money in their hands to do whatever they want with it.

Needless to say, I’ve been obsessed all week since the campaign suspension; I’ve been watching videos on YouTube and just trying to understand what worked and what didn’t. A lot of us (myself included), donated to Andrew Yang’s campaign whether it was time, money, effort. I donated money, which is something I’ve never done before. That’s how much I believed in Andrew Yang’s message.

While the whole experience of following Andrew Yang’s political journey is a personal choice, I also see it as a study in marketing, advertising, psychology, social media, running fast moving political campaigns and a peek into how mainstream media (MSM) operates.

My thoughts on MSM? They don’t like diversity as much as they claim to. Andrew Yang was blacked out, literally ignored almost every single time MSM would talk about the presidential candidates. He was also given the least amount of speaking time during the debates. It was infuriating to witness over and over and that’s why I think Yang Gang fought even harder for Andrew.

I wrote this down so I can finally be at peace with it and let go of my own expectations, so I guess we’ll see what happens next. I hope to stay engaged just to see what Andrew Yang plans on doing but after this, I might go back to being disengaged in politics unless someone else interesting comes along.

Andrew Yang Has Inspired Me

If you follow me on Twitter, then you know I’ve been tweeting nonstop about Andrew Yang – 2020 Democratic Presidential candidate.

It all started sometime 6 months ago, when I would see a friend of mine post his pic on Instagram or mention UBI – Universal Basic Income also known as the Freedom Dividend – Andrew Yang’s signature policy of handing out $1000 a month to every American over the age of 18.

So I became curious about the guy and got hooked. I watched interviews of him and found that I liked him. The Freedom Dividend was enough to entice me. I mean, who wouldn’t want $1000 a month? Even though I have a job and get paid well, the cost of living is still going up and that $1000 would definitely help.

By the end of November I started donating money to his campaign. And as a marketer and graphic designer, I liked his marketing and his style. His supporters, known as the Yang Gang were making themselves more visible around the internet.

Then he got Donald Glover and Dave Chappelle to endorse him. He became more popular not only for that but for being good at debates. He also became known for being the only candidate who didn’t bash Trump or his supporters. Not only that but the Yang Gang has lifted him up through social media when mainstream media ignored him and still do using the #YangMediaBlackout hashtag.

So at this point, I’m totally gunning for him. I can’t explain why he is so interesting to me, as there might be a lot of factors:

  1. He’s not a politician.
  2. He’s got a sense of humor. He’s relatable, is nice and down to earth.
  3. He wants us to have $1000 a month with no strings attached.
  4. He emphasizes our value as human beings, more than our economic value.
  5. I am engaged whenever he speaks and I actually understand what he’s saying.

I’ve also payed attention to his astrological birth chart and watched a few YouTube astrologers analyze it. Andrew Yang is doing big things and he’s just getting started.

How to Succeed This Decade

I saw this on Roberto Blake’s Twitter so I figured I should save it somewhere to remind myself of my own goals:

– Save Money
– Self Care
– Learn a High Level Skill
– Schedule Your Days
– Eat Healthy
– Invest Your Money
– Take More Risk
– Spend Less on Things
– Create More Income Streams
– Treat People Fairly
– Be Consistent

At this point though, the term ‘goals’ has become diluted in my opinion. Everyone’s constantly talking about their ‘goals’. So I’m going to strive for the things on this list and hope I make progress. Remember, small changes done consistently become big ones over time.

but I’m also going to add to it, because I’m not a duplicate.

– Write More
– Learn New Things
– Stay Creative
– Make Magic

Life Hasn’t Been the Same💔

I had a very good friend pass away recently. She passed away on Sunday, October 20th but I didn’t find out until Tuesday, October 22nd. Needless to say I haven’t been myself.

Her name was Roxy B. Montoya. We had been friends since 2004 I believe, we met online on a graffiti art forum then became closer friends on MySpace. Then we met in real life in 2006 and we have been best friends ever since. I would go to Las Vegas where she lived to support her art shows, she would come out here with her family to go to Disneyland and also show her art here in LA with her husband Albert.

I miss her terribly. She was only 36 years old and so her death was quite unexpected.

I’m just writing this for myself. To express gratitude for having such an amazing friend. She was loved by everybody, people who have never met Roxy in real life call her their “favorite internet friend”.

I have collected a lot of her art, which I still have.

Here’s an IG story she did for my 2018 birthday & I reposted it:

Dude, I’m missing you a ton. Everyone is. You made everyone feel so special.💔

What To Do When Things Get Stale

At some point, everything we’ve built up or worked on will become stale, boring, repetitive. You won’t be excited about it anymore or your enthusiasm for it will come and go in waves.

“Invite chaos in when things get stagnant.” – Sam Ovens

How do you push yourself to keep on going, what keeps you motivated? It’s inevitable that our motivations tend to change over time and as we age. This is also different for everybody so all I can do is speak from my own experience.

I also think we are wired a certain way, based on our astrological makeup.

For me, I have a tendency to lose interest in things I want to learn…quickly. It’s like, I can’t stay still or commit to just getting really good at one thing – I HAVE to know a little bit of everything.

It also has to be creative. Because if it’s not, then I don’t want to keep on doing it.

For example: in astrology, I am a fire sign which indicates my natural disposition for being spontaneous, passionate, creative. Great at initiating things though not necessarily finishing them as fire tends to ‘burn out’.

I guess I am writing this to remind myself that it’s okay to let things go when they aren’t doing anything for you anymore, which also applies to relationships.

Creating and destroying is a natural act.

Procrastination Is Good For You

I LOVE procrastinating; as a matter of fact, I’m a chronic procrastinator.😉

That doesn’t mean I’m lazy or I don’t get shit done, I’m actually very good at meeting deadlines; it’s one of the reasons why I believe I’m still employed.

Here are a few reasons why I think procrastination is good for you:

  1. Lets your creative mind wander and explore
  2. Helps generates new ideas
  3. Gives you time to rest and relax

These are my personal reasons; as someone who has to come up with ideas and execute them on a weekly basis, I strongly believe in procrastinating and just allowing thoughts and ideas to come through.

It may seem as if I’m just ‘browsing’ the internet or whatever, in reality my mind is searching for its next idea.

If you understand the creative process, then you probably understand why procrastination is just as important.

Anyway, enjoy the animated gif I made.

Thank U, Next by Ariana Grande – Lyric Video

I’ve had this song stuck in my head for a few weeks now and I’m not even into pop music at all. I only listen to pop music to keep up with what’s trending, what’s popular AND to keep me awake and alert when driving home from work.

What I am into though is the visuals (graphic designer here, duh). I like the cut up collage style they did here with the words. And the lipstick mark.
